Real Experience
The METU Psychology Department adopts a scientist–practitioner model, preparing students both as researchers and as professionals who apply scientific knowledge in real-world contexts.
From the early stages of the program, students are encouraged to develop intellectual curiosity, ask meaningful questions, and seek evidence-based answers grounded in scientific methodology.
The first two years provide a strong foundation through theoretical and methodological courses delivered by experienced faculty members, establishing the conceptual basis of psychological science.
In the third and fourth years, students move toward specialization, selecting courses aligned with their interests. These courses emphasize critical reading of scientific literature, discussion-based learning, report writing, presentations, and project-based work, supporting both individual and collaborative skills.
Students gain exposure to applied psychology through a mandatory internship, along with optional voluntary internships. In addition, they may participate in research activities within and beyond the department, gaining early experience in laboratory and applied settings.
The diversity of subfields offered allows students to explore psychology in depth and shape their own academic and professional trajectories prior to graduation.
