Program Introduction
Graduates of the METU Department of Biology develop a deep and structured understanding of the living world, from familiar organisms such as animals and plants to microorganisms such as fungi, bacteria, and yeast that are invisible to the naked eye. They learn to recognize biological interactions, identify potential risks in natural and human systems, and approach complex biological questions with scientific reasoning. More importantly, they develop an understanding of what is known, what remains unknown, and how scientific inquiry is designed to investigate these gaps. Through this process, the program transforms students into curious, analytical, and research-oriented scientists capable of addressing biological problems with rigor and precision.

Real Experience
Studying Biology at METU is not limited to attending lectures; it is a demanding academic journey that requires discipline, curiosity, and consistency. Students are expected to keep up with current scientific literature, read research articles regularly, and develop the ability to think critically about biological systems.
Laboratory work plays a central role in this experience. Experiments are not only performed but analyzed in depth, requiring students to interpret data, connect results to scientific theory, and write detailed scientific reports. These reports are among the most challenging aspects of the program, as they require precision, clarity, and academic reasoning.
Throughout the program, students gradually develop the habits of a scientist—questioning assumptions, following curiosity, and building knowledge through evidence. Elective courses and optional internships allow them to explore specific areas of interest and shape their academic direction.
By the time they graduate, students do not only possess biological knowledge—they develop scientific discipline, analytical thinking, and a clear understanding of how to contribute to the production of new knowledge.
