Department Overview

The Department of Political Science and Public Administration at METU prepares students to think critically and systematically about public affairs, governance, and political processes at both national and international levels. The program equips students with the analytical and conceptual tools needed to understand how institutions function, how policies are formed, and how power is structured and exercised in society. Through an interdisciplinary curriculum that draws on political science, public administration, law, political economy, and related social sciences, students develop the ability to analyze complex political realities from multiple perspectives. By the time they graduate, they are not only able to interpret political and administrative systems, but also to contribute thoughtfully to policy analysis, institutional development, and public decision-making processes.

The Real Experience

Studying at METU Political Science and Public Administration is an intensive intellectual journey that requires consistent reading, analysis, and critical engagement. From the early years, students are exposed to foundational texts in political thought and public administration, gradually building the ability to analyze complex political systems in a structured way.

As the program progresses, students begin to specialize through elective courses that allow them to focus on areas such as public policy, comparative politics, political economy, governance, and migration studies. Classroom learning is highly interactive, relying on discussions, presentations, and written assignments that develop both analytical and communication skills.

The academic environment encourages students to compare different perspectives, question assumptions, and construct well-supported arguments rather than seeking single correct answers. This approach builds intellectual flexibility and independent thinking.

Beyond the classroom, students benefit from a strong academic community, active faculty engagement, and opportunities to connect theory with practice through internships and applied projects. Over time, they develop a deeper understanding of how political and administrative systems operate and how they can be evaluated and improved.

By graduation, students are equipped not only with knowledge of politics and governance, but with the ability to analyze power structures, interpret policy impacts, and contribute meaningfully to public decision-making processes in diverse professional contexts.
